Week 4: Advanced RSS Feeds
I can see RSS Feeds being used for many things in the library. The first ones that come to mind are the Table of Contents and Monthly Updates. Patrons can be set up to get the Table of Contents directly from the publisher as soon as they are available and not have to wait the extra time for us to process them. The same with the monthly updates. All they need to do is to check their reader and there they have it, in the most timely manner possible. This obviously is also great for patrons to keep up with new books that we receive and with the most recent faculty publications. Wow, this really is something!
I'm assuming that we will have some patrons that will do this themselves and some that will want us to set it up for them, especially, those that are not so computer savvy (at this point we still have plenty).
On a little different subject, I wonder if this will also lead to our patrons having access to things like placing their own holds and renewing their books in our catalog without having to ask us. I know other libraries are already do this. It seems to me that this might also be a part of Library 2.0.

I think you have a good point! Letting patrons place their own holds, etc, would be very valuable for them, and would definitely be a "Library 2.0" kind of improvement.
After my post, I did some research on our own website and it seems that if a patron has a library card they can renew books from our website already. We don't give out library cards here in Scottsdale, so I had no idea this was available. Just goes to show, you can learn something new every day!
