Google Docs - I'm Really Liking This

Week 6: Online Collaboration Tools

I was on vacation most of last week, so now am playing catch up. I took some time off to spend with my boys before they started school. Scott is now a big Kindergartener and Sean started in a Pre-Kindergarten class at the elementary school. Wow, what big boys they've become!

Now, with that first exciting week over, time to concentrate on work. I had recently read somewhere that tools like this may replace Microsoft Word and Excel (it may have been in our first weeks reading). When I read that I thought to myself, "what are they talking about that could possibly make me feel that I have no need for Word and Excel, and what could possibly replace them?"

Well, now I know! These tools are wonderful! No need to buy a program, carry around a disk , or worry about what version and is it on this computer. And what an easy way to share your document and to have others collaborate with you. This is definitely something I will start using. This reminds me of when email went web-based. It's all at your fingertips, just another great tool that you can access from anywhere!

Good comments Risa, and that's exactly what we were able to do at our videoconference yesterday. Melissa's computer didn't work, so I used the one in the videoconference room, and brought up our blog, and the Google docs we were sharing. I didn't have to map to any shared drives; I didn't have to carry around a memory stick or CD or whatever-- because you never know what hardware is going to be available on the computer you're "borrowing."

Thanks Ann. I can't believe all these new tools and that I was unaware of them. Thanks so much for this class! It's been a huge learning experience.
